COUNCIL taxpayers unwittingly forked out a staggering £43,000 over the last financial year to pay for security guards to protect Harlow's disused swimming pool from vandals and squatters. The leisure facility was closed to the public in November 2007 after an architectural survey found the building to be structurally unsound, remaining unoccupied ever since.
