Volunteering in Harlow
Volunteer roles will help bolster CV
YOUNG people in East Anglia can gain CV-boosting qualifications and skills by volunteering for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Tracey Linnette, area manager at the BHF, said: "Our volunteers are at the heart of the charity and we simply wouldn't be able to continue our lifesaving work without them.
"We have volunteers who enjoy their time with us so much they have been volunteering with us for over 20 years. We appreciate every minute people can spare and to show how grateful we are, we also hope to give something back.
"Our volunteers can not only use and develop the skills they already have, but can also can keep their foot on the career ladder, work towards qualifications and gain some excellent experience".
The charity's shops and dedicated furniture and electrical stores have already awarded 280 NVQs in England and Wales this academic year and have another 450 staff and volunteers working towards the qualification.
Volunteers have the opportunity to learn new skills, gain full training and have a guaranteed interview for any paid position that becomes available.
BHF's furniture and electrical stores offer a variety of roles from warehouse and administration to sales and customer service. BHF shops offer opportunities from merchandising clothes, shoes and accessories to window dressing and working behind the till.
The charity has also launched a partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), which is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities giving young people the opportunity to experience new activities and develop existing skills.
BHF is an approved activity partner, meaning that young people can use their time volunteering in BHF shops to work towards their bronze, silver or gold DofE award.
The charity's shops raised more than £31 million last year to help fight heart disease. The charity has more than 700 shops, which sell 90,000 items every day and have over 20,000 volunteers.
The BHF has around 50 shops in East Anglia and around 15 furniture and electrical stores in the region.
