Two see red as Harlow Town suffer defeat in Essex derby

Harlow Town 0, Tilbury 2 (Ryman League, premier division)
TWO players were sent off as Harlow Town failed to record back-to-back league victories for the first time this season today (Saturday March 13).

Harlow had hoped to build on their midweek league victory over VCD Athletic, but paid the price for a below-par performance.

The first dismissal proved key to the outcome as referee Mark Mellor produced two yellow cards in the space of 10 seconds on Hawks centre-half Danny Chapman as he awarded visitors Tilbury a penalty.

FootballTilbury were already leading 1-0 at this point.

Chapman clearly received one caution for an innocuous challenge on ex-Hawk Christian Wheeler.

He then verbally abused the ref and it is believed the second yellow was for dissent.

But some horrendous foul language by Chapman as he made his way off the pitch and down the tunnel could land the towering defender with an even bigger ban.

The out-of-character incident, which had followed him kicking part of fencing as he trundled off, was borne more out of frustration but was witnessed by the assistant ref and Chapman must hope this does not land him with a longer ban.

Chapman has only just returned to football, after a long spell out of the game.

Bradley Barnes dispatched the spot-kick past Harlow keeper James Hasell for 2-0.

Earlier, Emmanuel Osei had the ball in the net for Harlow but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Mid-table Tilbury had taken the lead on nine minutes through Chris Taylor.

The visitors also hit a post through Ben Bradbury in the first half.

Harlow improved after being reduced to 10 men but lacked a cutting edge.

The match ended on a nasty note when Joel Barnett was dismissed for Tilbury in the 90th minute.

This was for his awful challenge on Hawks young centre-half Liam Thomas.
