Record crowd expected at Rye House

By Andrew Franczak
SPEEDWAY fans from all over the country will be descending on Rye House this Sunday for one of the biggest – and certainly the most star-studded meetings – in the track’s history as the turnstiles open for The Ben Fund Bonanza.

Rye House Rockets vs Redcar BearsThe annual individual event  is being held to raise money for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund.

The charity assists riders who have been seriously injured, as a result of accidents whilst racing for British-based teams. During the last two years the Fund has helped over 80 riders and has given more than £100,000 of assistance.

Former world number two Leigh Adams will be defending his title at Rye House, with his biggest challenge expected to come from the reigning and three-time World Champion Jason Crump and fellow triple winner Nicki Pedersen.

Freddie Lindgren, who headed last season’s Elite League averages, and 2008 British U-21 and U-18 title winner Tai Woffinden, who enjoyed such a successful run with the Rockets, are also competing.

There are additional former Rockets on display in the form of Great Britain stars Edward Kennett and Danny King, while the current Rye House team will be represented by Chris Neath,

Five-time British Champion and GB international star Scotty Nicholls will be appearing at Rye House for the first time.

With the biggest attendance in the track’s history expected, gates open at
11am, with the meeting starting at 2.30pm.
