POLICE are warning residents and companies with lead flashing around the windows or on the roofs of their homes or business premises to remain extra vigilant following a recent theft in Harlow.
Lead worth thousands of pounds was stolen from the roof of a building in The Fairway.
Crime reduction officer Emma Clark said: “Criminals are clearly targeting any metal. However, lead flashing, which is usually found around windows and on roofs is heavy and the thieves must be using a vehicle of some sort to transport the lead away from the location.
“It is likely that the criminals are identifying areas where they can get relatively easy access to lead flashing, driving to the scene, ripping the lead out and then leaving as quickly as they can.
“I would urge members of the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious people or vehicles in their neighbourhoods to police immediately.”
The theft took place between January 29 and February 2. Anyone with information should contact the police on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
