THE wheels are slowly turning on a proposed extension of the Central Line to provide a direct Underground link between Harlow and London.
A feasibility study is currently being carried out on behalf of Harlow Renaissance into the possibility of constructing a Tube station close to the M11 roundabout at Hastingwood.

If the study determines sound business and economic cases for the extension of the Central Line from its current terminus at Epping, a more in-depth report could be commissioned as a result.
However, any extension of the underground line could not be carried out without the co-operation of Transport for London – and the Star understands the organisation has no involvement whatsoever with the feasibility study at this stage.
Harlow Council leader Andrew Johnson, said: “Extending the Central Line is an idea that has a lot of popular support in Harlow.
“The study has been commissioned to find out whether or not it’s a realistic proposal. Harlow Renaissance has commissioned the work as part of their wider remit to give the council strategic advice on possibilities for the future regeneration and growth of the town.”
A Harlow Renaissance spokesman added: “The study will explore a possible route for the Central Line extension to Harlow and will build up the information required to assess, in very broad terms, the economic and business cases for such an extension.
“The outcomes of the study will be used to determine whether there is a realistic possibility and sound case for the Central Line extension that warrants the funding of a further, more detailed explorative work.”
