Real ale fans flock to Gibberd Garden beer festival

DESPITE heavy downpours, the spirits of real ale lovers weren’t dampened at the Gibberd Garden’s annual beer festival.

Opened by Harlow MP Robert Halfon, the popular beer drinking event which is run jointly by the Gibberd Garden Trust and the local CAMRA branch attracted hundreds of eager punters keen to taste some of the regions best ales and ciders.

With the beer tent and main marquee extended this year, drinkers were able to stay dry whilst enjoying the 25 locally brewed real ales and ciders, the furthest of which was sourced from Tring in West Herts.

Herts and Essex Borders Branch Publicity Secretary Chris Sears said the weekend had been a huge success.

"Despite the varied weather and ordering as much beer as previous years, the beer sold out just before the end of the festival for the first time in Herts and Essex Borders history!" he said.

"This was the fourth time the event has been run and it was another great success. Plus the Sunday session coincided with Father’s Day which several dads said they were very pleased about!"

Chairman Brendan Sothcott added: “It was a fantastic festival, which has grown through the time we have run it. Many people and families are regular attendees, who love a walk in the garden, as well as the great beer festival atmosphere.”
