HOSPITAL chiefs in Harlow are to launch a £½m fundraising campaign to provide new faciilties for the care of premature babies.
Building work is due to start in April and will include a state-of-the-art unit with an additional four neonatal cots as well as a dedicated paediatric outpatient department to improve services provided for children.
The fundraising campaign, to be launched in the next few weeks, will seek the support of local businesses, individuals and local personalities.
Wendy Matthews, associate director for women’s and children’s services, said: “Our neonatal service has performed well in a number of external assessments over the years. However, we must include in our long-term plans the need to increase the capacity and environment of the unit to care for the number of premature babies and their families we are seeing.”
