Hospice urges residents to take leap of faith in skydive challenge

By Vicky Lane

ADRENALINE junkies with a head for heights are being urged to jump at a chance to raise money for a local hospice.St Clare’s Hospice in Hastingwood are looking to recruit 15 fearless individuals to freefall 10,000ft in a fundraising tandem skydive.

Participants brave enough to sign up for the sky-high challenge, which is taking place on Saturday, April 14 at Peterborough Airfield, just need to raise at a minimum £395 sponsorship, £130 of which will instantly go towards funding the hospice’s specialist care.

One daredevil who has already made the jump in aid of St Clare’s is 26-year-old Lindsey Bertram (pictured right), of Fifth Avenue.

"It was just brilliant – one of the best experiences of my life," she said."It was actually my mum, who is a volunteer at St Clare’s, who was meant to being doing the skydive at first but she had to pull out last minute and I was left to take over!"

It was incredible though and made even better by knowing that I was doing it for a good cause.

"Obviously through mum I am very aware of St Clare’s incredible work and only too happy to help where I can."

She added: "It really is a once in a lifetime experience and I would encourage anyone thinking about doing a skydive to just go for it – you won’t regret it."

For more about taking part in the group skydive, call Tracy on (01279) 773750 or email fund@stclarehospice.org.uk. For those unable to attend on April 14 alternative dates can be arranged.
