Harlow teen is MP's youngest-ever intern

HARLOW teen Annie Collyer may have only just turned 15, but she has already walked the corridors of power after spending a week’s work experience at Harlow MP Robert Halfon’s parliamentary office.

Although she was the Tory backbencher’s youngest-ever intern, the student from Saint Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford made a very good impression.

"She was only here for a few days, but she was absolutely fantastic," Mr. Halfon told the Star.

"She was only 14 but she seemed 20 - she was really hardworking and very interested in meeting everyone and seeing the Houses of Parliament."

During her four-day placement, Annie gave tours of the Houses of Parliament, watched a heated debate in the chambers and even delivered whisky to PM David Cameron’s office!

Annie’s mother, Karen Collyer (46), of Katherines, told the Star her daughter had relished the opportunity.

"I think it was one of the best experiences that a child could ever have," she said.

"She was absolutely ecstatic and very excited about the people she met and the experiences she’s had. It is very unusual for someone that young to get this kind of opportunity."
