The former special advisor to Gordon Brown spoke about his experiences within Government and highlighted improvements in education in Harlow over the last 13 years - including the impending construction of a new university campus and the increasing number of students passing their GCSEs.

More than 60 education professionals attended the event, hosted by local MP Bill Rammell at Harlow Study Centre, and took the opportunity to ask questions and give personal feedback to Mr Balls from the education frontline.

Mr Rammell said: "I was delighted to welcome Ed Balls to Harlow to talk with teachers and governors about achievements in education and the Government’s education agenda for the next decade.

"Our schools have been transformed through hard-working teachers and the huge extra investment over 13 years we were previously denied.

"Labour is passionately committed to improving education and the life chances of young people in Harlow - this was demonstrated by the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families taking the time to come and speak to our education professionals."
