Her Royal Highness, the wife of Prince Edward, was welcomed by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex Lord Petre before being introduced to hospice representatives, local dignitaries and Harlow MP Robert Halfon.

The Countess was then taken on a tour of the facility - including the day therapy and inpatient units - during which she chatted to staff, volunteers, patients and their families.

Hospice chairman Michael Chapman said: “This year is the 21st anniversary for the hospice which is a fantastic achievement for all of us and we are extremely grateful to the Countess of Wessex for visiting us in this very special year.”
