CATERING students from Harlow College braved sub-zero temperatures to take part in the town centre pancake race.

Two teams battered it out for supremacy on a makeshift course in Broad Walk in a bid to be crowned 2010 champions.

But the end result was too close to call and both teams were awarded winners’ medals by Harlow Council chairwoman Edna Stevens.

The event, organised by the Harlow Town Centre Partnership, raised a total of £70 for St Clare Hospice.

Hospice community fundraiser Vicky Parker said: "We are very grateful for the opportunity to work with students from Harlow College in many ways but the annual pancake race is a highlight in the calendar.

"It’s the local community of all ages that have created St Clare Hospice and continue to fund the care we provide for our community."
