Hertford street on the up as store has booming five weeks

By Emily Fox

A NEWLY opened store in Hertford has had a booming five weeks according to its owners.

Mootilicious in Maidenhead Street, which sells milkshakes and ice cream, has been well-received by shoppers in the town.

Husband and wife owners Justin and Kelly Brett have seen a lot of interest since opening despite the street not being as popular as it once was.

Justin said: "Maidenhead Street used to be the place to be when Woolworths and McDonalds were there, but people continue to come in despite that. We’ve had a really good first few weeks. Granted they have been tiring, but it has been well worth it, we just want it to continue."

Kelly says their 11-year old daughter Harrie has become joint partner.

She added: "She really loves getting involved with the shop, she is our little co-manager. It has really been a fantastic start for us and people have been really supportive in the town."

Elsewhere in Maidenhead Street, Homes and Gardens has relocated to a larger store, where manager Michelle Croom says they have been able to expand and offer a lot more to customers.

She added: "The new store sale came up, we were looking to move and it seemed the perfect place. It’s a lot bigger and means we can do a lot more in the store.
Maidenhead Street has not been a great place to be especially in the last couple of years but its getting better as new stores come in."

Across the road, Alworths is set to take over the old Woolworths store.

Jason Hennington, co-manager of the current store Well Worth It, said: "We’ve had a good go in Hertford but are now moving into the old Co-op in Hoddesdon."

Well Worth It moved out on Monday and the Alworths store, which is a remake of the old Woolworths, is set to open later this year.
